:::This event is ALL AGES:::

ODDSAC is a feature film collaboration between the band Animal Collective and filmmaker Danny Perez that was co-conceived by and stars Animal Collective, whose 2009 album “Merriweather Post Pavilion” was named album of the year by SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, and Pitchfork, and topped critic’s end of year lists worldwide. ODDSAC is a dense and surreal layering of audio and visual elements that eschews conventional narrative to create a visceral, immersive experience.

ODDSAC features an original score with new songs from the band and complex digital manipulation by Perez, a debut filmmaker and visual artist known for his concert projections with musicians such as Black Dice and Panda Bear. ODDSAC represents a new synthesis of music and film, a “visual album” whose songs will not be released in any other form. ODDSAC is the result of over four years of intense collaboration between Perez and the band.

Trespassing, defacing property and jail have kept me out of the graffiti game…can you blame me?! I’ve tagged and doodled every spare inch of my notebooks as far back as I can remember, and if I wasn’t so anti-poe poe I’d already have bombed several walls. Needless to say my inner-creative beast has been caged up far too long.

I reacently stumbled across WALLS NOTEBOOK…basically the coolest sketch book to date. WALLS NOTEBOOK is a coffee table quality, hard cover, sketch pad filled front to back with different pictures of untagged walls in NYC.

What I like most about this book, aside from the obvious, is that you don’t have to be a graffiti grandmaster to enjoy this book. Diary entries, lyrics, hell even grocery lists can be documented on the pages of WALLS. I just ordered 2 copies of this book and I plan on sticking one of them on my coffee table for all to enjoy. What better than having a grand collab effort of all my friends/guests.

WALLS also has a couple really hip features on their website. One of which is an interactive gallery where you can create your own digital masterpiece and email it to friends. Below are a couple examples…

To order your copy click here

I had the pleasure of chatting over a beer with Thomas Noll, founder and creator of Creative Bone Artworks. Conversation sparked over arguably one of the best painted canvases I’ve ever seen. Pause, let me preface, I am extremely bias when it comes to Phish (Trey especially) and with good cause being a product of Groovy UV (U of Vermont). So it shouldn’t surprise you that I was obsessed with Thomas Noll’s canvas of Trey.

A key ingredient of art is perspective. It defines the artist as well as provides a point of reference for the audience…whether your audience is 10,000 screaming fans or a pair of naked eyes staring at a painting. Either way, Creative Bone has mastered the art (no pun intended) of capturing the peaking moment in music. Tom’s unique use of color provides a vibrant energy that you can almost hear, and yes I said hear. Now that I think about it, Creative Bone is the closest thing to scratch and listen art I’ve ever seen. Tom there’s an idea for ya.

A few guys from Germany, who are apart of a design collective known as eBoy have created a pixelated rendition of the Baltimore Docks, and it only cost $25!

The poster, which reminds me of a “Where’s Waldo” of Baltimore, features everything from ‘Boh to the harbor police surrounding Domino’s sugar. I, being a tech crunchy web-designer and developer, had to get a copy for myself. It’s hanging in my office space located in Canton, Baltimore.

For those that may be interested, I work with a bunch of other independents at Beehive Baltimore. From their website:

“Beehive Baltimore a community of freelancers, independents, entrepreneurs, and artists who want to augment the work-at-home lifestyle by working and participating in a community that’s designed to support and encourage people who make a living doing what they love.

Sometimes I like to pretend that I’m a Baller, ie. when I throw on my Times Square FRolex and ball out or when I rock my imitation Calvin Klein Jeans. Now obviously my delusions end when I check my bank account and see how much I owe the bank in overdraft fees (who needs overdraft protection). But delusions don’t have to end at least when we’re talking about snagging some Fine Art from the good folks at TAG Galleries, 732 S. Broadway, in Historic Fells Point. Now I know your sitting there saying “Tyler, I want to ball but like you I’m on a budget and IKEA prints just don’t do it for me, How can I bling out my wall with the good good?”

Well TAG is the answer and the selection goes from the Bold to the B.E.A.Utiful and all sorts of in between. This Maryland born reproduction studio takes artists from all over the country and reproduces their work on canvas and high quality posters, thus making it affordable for my fellow B.O.B.s. After walking in and gawking at the walls for a while, myself and some of the Fortune5Fifty crew knew we needed to spread the word quicker then an Essex chick’s legs at prom. Not only is the gallery located in easy to get to Fells Point but you can always order straight off the Internet at www.TAGGalleries.com. Where not only can you check out what they’re working with, but can do it while sitting naked on your roommate’s couch. So simple to do that I heard Lenny from Of Mice and Men even copped some art from these guys. Head on over and let the Baller on a Budget that is in you break out and pick something up, Tell ‘em Fortune5Fifty sent you and we want the naked picture of Sheila Dixon back, we miss it.

After painting live for us at the Electronic Snowball, I made it my mission to check out more of Hank’s work. So after some procrastination and a couple of phone calls, I finally got a disc full of Hanktastic goodness. . Hank, a Baltimore native, will be launching his own site soon and I want to encourage all to check it out. As soon as he goes live Fortune5Fifty will leak the address but until then check out the Top Six Hank List below. Hank’s work ranges in medium from pencil to film and everything in between except maybe sand sculpture. Whatever your taste in art I’m sure Hank has created something that will grab your attention and possibly run away with it. Be on the look out for the Hank interview in the near future.
