Future Rock gets MASSIVE

This Saturday Steez Promo opens the portal to funkytown yet again with their latest addition of seasonal massives at the legendary Paradox in the heart of Charm City. Summer Massive hosts the likes of AlexB, Charles Feelgood, Leon Sonkin, Hot Pink Delorian, and my personal favorite Future Rock. We were lucky enough to catch up with Future Rock’s own Felix Moreno to get his opinion on this years Summer Massive.

(F5F) How did Future Rock come into creations? Give us some incite on how you all met and decided to unite as the future of rock.

(Felix) The concept for Future Rock was born when Mickey came home with the Nord Lead 3 Synth almost 10 years ago. We pretty much decided right then that the synthesizer is the best thing in the world and that we were going to play live electronic music. The current lineup for FR was firmed up 5 years ago when we met Darren. He was already incorporating live synth/e-drum loops for live house and drum and bass. It was a perfect fit right off the bat, and we all knew it.

(F5F) When did you first start playing music? Have you had any classical training?

(Felix) Started when I was 7 with piano. I have a music performance degree from Northwestern University for classical Double Bass.

(F5F) If you could collab with any band living or dead who would it be and why?

(Felix) I want to write for Madonna. And then I want to make out with her.

(F5F) Touring from city to city in a bus/van can be cramped especially working off little to no sleep. What is the one thing you cannot live without on tour?

(Felix) First of all, sleep is over-rated. Second, I need a bottle of Makers Mark backstage, or there is no show!

(F5F) What’s next for Future Rock…album, fall tour details, festivals?! What should we expect from Future Rock in the coming months.

(Felix) Were wrapping up festival season with Summer Massive, Trinumeral, Harvest, and Wuhnurth Festivals. We will only have select fall dates. We are focusing on TWO major releases. These will be the first material we’ve published since GEARS in 2007. Details should be announced very soon.

(F5F) The Summer Massive has a lot of talent on the roster…is there anyone in particular you are siked about seeing/playing with?

(Felix) We’ve played with Joe Nice, Alex B, and Sonkin…Love em. But the best part of events like Summer Massive is the opportunity to see many acts for the first time.

(F5F) Baltimore aka Bmore aka Charm City has a lot of Future Rock love…is there any particularly special/fond moment you have from your past experiences in Maryland?

(Felix) Starscape in 2008, getting back onstage after the thunderstorm, the crowd several thousand strong, the whole scene exploded! Baltimore has attitude. Do not fuck with Baltimore. I love that.

(F5F) Is it true Mikey auditioned for The Lord of the Rings?

(Felix) Haha! That’s funny but Mickey is going to kick your ass! Yes, he is 5′1″, but he gets a running start and then goes full-horizontal-flying-tackle. I swear it, watch your back!

(F5F) Over the years we have seen some wild contract riders filled with extremely interesting band requests…what it is the wildest rider request you or anyone off the top of your head has requested?

(Felix) Ha! FR has like a 5 page rider with all sorts of ridiculous requests (whole avacodos, spring water only, box of chocalates, 5 pairs of socks.) Usually, the venue or promoter sends it back with everything crossed off except for one bottle of Makers Mark, which like I said earlier is mandatory.

(F5F) Out of all your travels where is your favorite place to play? Is there somewhere you all haven’t played yet you aspire to?

(Felix) Well, Baltimore is my favorite obviously!….But, The Tabernacle in Atlanta was special for us. As was Stubbs outdoor in Austin and House of Blues in New Orleans. Still waiting for the call from Red Rocks.

Doors open at 8:30 and music starts at 9pm and goes until 6am…Felix said it best “Sleep is over-rated!”
