Rarely in life do we get the opportunity to meet someone as prophetic as Alex Grey. I was lucky enough to spend time with him Dec 18th & 19th as he was in town for an art opening to kick off his new book Art Psalms (which I have read 3 times cover to cover over the past 2 weeks).
Have you ever met someone who seems to be associated with a higher plane of existence? As we exchanged words, I could feel energy unlike any other. His aura had a pleasant glow and his words were filled with wisdom far beyond the human imagination.
Assuming you’ve had any entry level college art course you would undoubtedly know Alex Grey’s artistic legacy. Alex Grey is a living legend amongst modern artist. His roots grow deep. Born into an extraordinary setting, his parents collaborated to illustrate Grey’s Anatomy which is known in the health industry as the medical bible. He graduated from Boston Museum College and went on to study at Harvard Medical School. Where he later became close friends with Harvard’s professor Timothy Leary who opened his mind to psychedelic drugs.
Alex has prided himself on expanding his parent’s legacy by adding a much needed third eye, which he describes as the creative link to the holy creator. Much of his art infuses anatomy and spirituality revealing an element of life rarely captured in art. His work is nondenominational and more often then not connects several conflicting religious views on one canvas as a way of preaching one universal god.
Whether you are religious or not you can certainly feel a spiritual presence by his body of work. For more info on Alex Grey check out http://www.alexgrey.com/
